Terms of Service

Effective: July 21, 2026

Welcome to HBCU Community. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the HBCU Community platform ("Platform"). By accessing or using the Platform, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Platform.

1. Description of Service

HBCU Community is a platform that connects students, alumni, and supporters of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. The Platform provides networking, resource sharing, mentorship, and community engagement features.

2. Account Responsibilities

To use certain features of the Platform, you must create an account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and to update your information as needed. You must notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account.

3. User Content

You retain ownership of content you submit to the Platform ("User Content"). By submitting User Content, you grant HBCU Community a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, display, reproduce, and distribute your User Content in connection with operating and improving the Platform. You represent that you have the necessary rights to grant this license and that your User Content does not violate any third-party rights.

4. AI-Generated Content

The Platform uses artificial intelligence to provide certain features, including resume parsing and bio generation. You acknowledge and agree that:

  • AI-generated content is provided as suggestions only and may contain inaccuracies or errors. You are solely responsible for reviewing, editing, and approving any AI-generated content before it is added to your profile.
  • HBCU Community does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or suitability of any AI-generated output.
  • Personal identifiers (such as email addresses and phone numbers) are redacted from data sent to third-party AI providers. Your original uploaded files are not shared with AI providers.

5. Paid Subscriptions and Billing

Certain chapter features are offered as a paid subscription ("Pro"). If you subscribe on behalf of a chapter, you represent that you are authorized to bind that chapter to these Terms and to incur the associated charges.

  • Fees and renewal: Paid subscriptions are billed in advance on a recurring basis (for example, monthly or annually) at the price shown at checkout. Your subscription renews automatically for successive periods until it is cancelled.
  • Payment processing: Payments are handled by our third-party payment processor, Stripe. We do not collect or store your full card details; those are processed by Stripe under its own terms and privacy policy. See our Privacy Policy for how billing information is handled.
  • Cancellation: You may cancel a subscription at any time from the chapter's billing settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period, and access continues until then. Except where required by law, fees already paid are non-refundable and we do not provide partial-period refunds.
  • Price changes: We may change subscription prices. A change applies to your next billing period after we provide notice, and continuing your subscription after the change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the new price.
  • Trials and complimentary access: We may offer trial or complimentary access at our discretion. Unless an active paid subscription is in place, access granted this way may end at any time, after which paid features are no longer available.
  • Failed payments: If a payment fails, we may suspend or downgrade the paid features until the payment is resolved.
  • Taxes: Fees are exclusive of any taxes, which are your responsibility where applicable.

6. Prohibited Conduct

You agree not to:

  • Use the Platform for any unlawful purpose
  • Harass, threaten, or intimidate other users
  • Post false, misleading, or deceptive content
  • Impersonate another person or entity
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Platform or servers connected to the Platform
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any portion of the Platform or other accounts
  • Use automated means to access or collect data from the Platform without permission
  • Upload viruses, malware, or other harmful code
  • Violate any applicable law or regulation

7. Intellectual Property

The Platform and its original content (excluding User Content), features, and functionality are owned by HBCU Community and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the Platform without our prior written consent.

8. Disclaimers

The Platform is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not warrant that the Platform will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. We do not endorse or guarantee the accuracy of any User Content or information shared on the Platform.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, HBCU Community and its officers, directors, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of or inability to use the Platform, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

10. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account and access to the Platform at our sole discretion, without notice, for conduct that we determine violates these Terms, our Community Guidelines, or is otherwise harmful to other users or the Platform. You may also delete your account at any time through your account settings.

11. Changes to Terms

We may revise these Terms at any time by posting the updated version on this page and updating the effective date. Your continued use of the Platform after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. We encourage you to review these Terms periodically.

12. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.
